Room Shift

Stood up too fast, after hours on the low couch.

The book slipped. The world just decided to go

a different way. A sudden, dizzying slouch

in the air, like the floor wasn't solid below.

My eyes grabbed at the walls, the steady frame

of the door, but everything blurred, a quick slide.

My stomach dropped, called out my name

from somewhere deep inside. A dizzying ride.

Just a second, but it felt like the whole room

had tilted, and I was holding on by a thread.

The ground, so reliable, swallowed by gloom.

Still here, but the world's inside my head.
