The Left One

Just a step, a misjudgment, quick,

and suddenly my left foot felt the trick.

That cold seeping in, a sudden chill,

from a puddle hiding, standing still.

It squelched inside my shoe, a wet, soft sound,

the world just tilting on uneven ground.

A tiny thing, a petty, sharp disgrace,

but somehow putting everything in its place.
