Felt around the drawer for the blade I knew

Felt around the drawer for the blade I knew

was there, somewhere. My small light, a tiny thing,

tried its best, a weak, pale yellow hue,

then started to stutter, almost to sing

its last. The circle shrank, a closing eye,

a sickened pulse, then just the deeper dark.

And something in me seemed to sigh,

a small, unnoticed, fading mark.

Everything just goes, doesn't it?

Even these small things, they run down slow.

Leaving you fumbling, a little bit

more lost, than you meant to know.
