Three AM Light

The truck grumbled past,

a low roll,

and that was that.

The quiet took its toll.

Eyes open,

the dark not quite

dark enough. Broken

by the digital red light.

The ceiling, a plain sheet,

a slow sway

of branches from the street,

making shapes that don't stay.

Three thirty-one.

A small, dry cough

from the next room. Done.

Just waiting for it to be off.
