Light's End

The morning began with clear glass,

and then the road just closed.

A wall of gray, thick mass,

where the light itself disposed

of everything.

My high beams, yellow cones,

reached out, then simply stopped.

They hit a solid, silent stones

of nothing, then they dropped

the view ahead.

I slowed the car, a crawl,

the world shrunk to this small sphere.

The damp seeped in, over all,

a quiet, heavy fear

of what wasn't there.

Just the engine's low drone,

and the absolute, soft white.

Driving blind, alone,

into the fading light

that held no end.
