The Granted Weight

They talk about 'everything you wanted,'

as if desire can't leave you haunted.

I remember the phone call, the specific weight

of that 'yes,' sealing my fate.

I prayed for it, you see, with everything I had.

And then I got it. It went bad.

Not wrong, exactly, just too much,

a burden, too heavy to touch.

The thing you thought you needed most,

became the anchor, a ghost

around your neck, pulling you down.

I won the prize, and lost the crown.
