Cafe Light

Just a flicker,

over the rim of my mug.

Your head, bent close to hers,

that familiar shrug.

A quick laugh from you,

a sound I used to know.

The light caught her hair,

a quick, cruel glow.

Then his hand,

just rested there,

on her forearm,

without a care.

So casual, so light,

like he owned the air.

And the spoon dropped,

clattering, my own small scare.
