Dead Weight

The screen went black.

Just like that.

Mid-aisle, fluorescent hum.

The list, erased. My brain went numb.

I shook it, pointless, hard.

A cold, dead rectangle.

No signal. No card.

Just a heavy, useless angle.

The recipe, the exact spice,

all lost in that sudden, dark plunge.

Stuck, again, by lack of juice.

Just a dull, angry lunge

at nothing. At the silence it made.

At being cut off, by a small, dead brick.

All my small connections frayed.

And I stood there, stupid, sick.
