Too Easy

She sat there, laughing,

spinning her old line.

That same tired crafting,

making someone else shine

just to take them down.

I saw it, plain as day,

at the cafe, downtown.

And I watched her play.

And I remembered my hand,

that dismissive wave.

'It's fine, I understand.'

Such a fool, so brave

to let her walk free.

Thought I was the big soul.

Now I just see

the gaping, old hole

she left in my pocket.

That easy, quick 'let go.'

Like a broken locket,

with nothing to show.
