A Cool Sweat

The sheets, a swamp.

My hair, plastered.

Then a shift. Not a thump,

but a slow, quiet master

leaving the room. The heat,

the fire behind my eyes,

just went. It was neat,

a sudden, cold surprise.

My skin, so recently hot,

is clammy now, a film of chill.

The pillow damp, a dark blot.

My head feels light, almost still.

The air is suddenly sharp,

no longer thick and dense.

The body's broken its harp.

Just a fragile, new sense.
