Ceiling Chirp

Beep.

A tiny rupture in the dark.

Beep.

Not quite an alarm, more a remark.

Three AM. The digital glow

of the clock, a green, low

hum.

Beep.

From the hall, a ceiling scar

with a red flash, a fading star

of purpose. Battery low.

My brain, slow,

unclenches.

Beep.

My feet hit the cold floor.

A shiver climbs, demanding more

than sleep. I blink.

Beep.

It makes me think

of nothing,

just the sound.

Just the sound.
