Blue Map

The ice, too quick,

a sharp, small tick

behind my front teeth.

Then a pulse beneath.

I lift it up, my tongue,

and see the stretched skin, wrung

with tiny blue rivers.

My whole mouth shivers.

Thin, translucent, wet,

a secret map I've always let

lie hidden. Until a bite

shows that tender, raw light.
