Quiet Theft

Silver wrapper folded beneath my wallet,

a secret tucked in leather and pockets.

The candy's slick surface,

a whisper in the aisle’s quiet hum.

A glance sharp, pulse skipping—

the moment stretched thin like stretched gum,

then snapped shut as I walked away,

weight lighter in my coat.

No eyes caught the slip,

a small crime folded into the folds

of unnoticed things

and remembered only in the pulse beneath my skin.
