Sudden Dark

The movie flickered, just once, a warning,

then everything went black, without morning

or moon. Just the heavy, silent weight

of a house suddenly shut from fate

of light.

No hum from the fridge, no soft blue screen.

The streetlights vanished, a different scene

unrolled outside the window, just the trees

a darker black, swaying in the breeze

of nothing.

And then the quiet. Not just lack of sound,

but a deeper hush, profound.

My own breath, suddenly loud, too real.

What do you touch, when you can't feel

the edge of the room?
