Another screen

Another screen,

another perfect beach.

Sand,

a blue I'll never reach.

Then, a glitch.

News,

a flicker.

A county fair in Omaha,

or somewhere

just like it.

A blurry shot

of corn dogs,

a tilt-a-whirl,

bright, loud,

and somehow

so very far away.

I think of the highway,

endless gray ribbon.

A semi-truck,

a speck of red,

moving through it.

Just that.

Under a sky so big

it feels like

an accusation.

Nothing to see here.

Just the slow,

important breath

of a place

you only fly over.
