The Earth’s Argument

The plastic handle gave up

three steps from the top.

There is a specific silence that happens

between the snap and the impact.

A dozen eggs, Grade A Large,

collided with the landing.

The shells are like crushed teeth

and the yolk is soaking into the gray pores

of the concrete,

becoming a permanent part of the building.
