The coworker needs a lift to the station

The coworker needs a lift to the station

so I’m digging through the sediment

on the floorboards.

Under the seat, my fingers snag

on the cold, gritty handle of the skillet

I bought in a gravel lot three years ago.

It smells of seasoned grease and the fake pine

hanging from the mirror.

It’s a strange thing to haul through traffic,

ten pounds of iron

waiting for a stove I haven't lit

since the gas got cut.

#burden #domestic stagnation
