The chlorine stings the corners of my eyes

The chlorine stings the corners of my eyes

waiting for the morning’s chlorine sun to rise.

The water is a heavy, chemical blue,

distorting every muscle I thought I knew.

My shins are snapped at angles in the deep,

a promise that my joints can no longer keep.

A pale, wobbling kneecap drifts in the light,

a stranger’s bone lost in the middle of the night.
