Overdressed for the Occasion

I thought the wool would make me look like more

than just a temp with borrowed shoes.

But in the flash, I’m the only one

who didn’t get the casual news.

My tie is heavy, a strip of bargain silk

dipped in a plastic cup of lukewarm beer.

I’m sweating through the lining while they laugh,

trying to seem like someone who belongs here.
