Static

The magnet was shaped like a lemon.

It finally quit today,

dropping that card to the linoleum

with a sound like a dry leaf.

It was a reminder for a Tuesday in April.

The dog has been under the oak tree

for six months now, but the grease

kept that paper stuck to the freezer door.

I picked it up and saw the vet’s name,

looped in blue ink that’s starting to bleed.

The kitchen is too quiet

now that the hum of the fridge is the only thing left.
