Insufficient Funds

The hero was halfway through saying a word

when the picture dissolved into something blurred.

Then the screen went as dark as a hole in the wall,

leaving no light in the kitchen at all.

My phone gave a buzz with a note from the bank,

the kind of cold letter that makes your heart sank.

'We value your business,' the template had said,

but the white loading circle is all that I'm fed.

It spins like a gear that has lost all its teeth,

with a flat error message appearing beneath.

I’m cut from the story, I’m left on the floor,

while the world carries on through the crack in the door.
