Silent Visitor

The bell rang thrice, but silence won,

a visitor gone, a message undone.

Brass button worn smooth by rain’s slow drip,

a call unanswered, a cracked lip.

Twice this week the sound sliced through air,

empty steps met with vacant stare.

No footsteps echo, no door unlocks,

just quiet falling in heavy blocks.

I wait, then stop—the stillness grows,

a question I can’t expose.
