Bitter Swallow

Water rushed in like a desperate plea,

throat stung sharp, almost choking me.

Glass slipped from fingers, shattered on tile,

splash pooling like regret in a sudden mile.

Heat pressed heavy after humid miles,

not just thirst—something deeper defiles.

The cool betrayed me in its quick retreat,

a bitter gulp turned sour and incomplete.

I crouched to gather shards on the floor,

a rush of need that begged for more.
