Broken Down Drive

The rusty truck gives a tired cough,

sputters out on cracked roadside.

The driver stumbles, hands aloft,

trying to coax it back alive.

Dented mirror holds the sun,

fading slow, fractured and cracked.

The engine’s silence, loud and done,

like years of fights too long packed.

I pass by, windows rolled tight,

a witness to this slow defeat.

Some things break beyond repair,

and sometimes you just leave the street.
