Fracture

The Wi-Fi died and the screen went gray,

the numbers blurring on the form.

I threw the heavy ceramic away

to see if the radiator felt the storm.

Now the kitchen is perfectly still.

I’m standing here in one old shoe.

A jagged white shard is waiting to spill

a bit of my blood from the other one, too.
