I’ve been in the produce section for ten minutes

I’ve been in the produce section for ten minutes.

I wrote 'batteries' three times on this scrap,

each one darker and angrier than the last.

Do I even have a flashlight? No.

I think I’m just here for the cold mist

that hits the kale every few seconds.

The pen leaked in my pocket,

a blue bruise on the side of my pinky.

I’m looking at the lemons—

they look like bright, waxy stones—

and I can't remember if I’m out,

or if I just like the way my hand

made the 'L' look like a hook.
