Worn Copper

Beneath cracked sidewalk tiles,

a single penny lies pressed,

copper dulled by rain and grime,

wedge trapped beside a faded line.

It shines, a dim spark,

a small witness to every footstep,

a journey flattened,

sent from some forgotten place,

waiting to be noticed again,

then lost to the street’s cold breath.
