Clean Break

The bracket pulled free and the dish came down,

split clean across the tile.

Not shattered—halved. Two pieces

laid there like they'd planned it all the while.


I pressed them flush. The fracture

was thinner than a hair.

You'd swear the thing was whole.

You'd swear. But it was there.
