First Cold Step

Bare foot slips on cracked tiles—

sharp enough to split the pause.

A shiver blooms in the marrow,

a gasp caught, white breath

against the pale floodlight.

Cold as the glass that leaks

fogged shapes onto the floor,

a moment where the day breaks

not with sound, but a tremble

beneath the skin.
