Weight of Wishes

Coins piled beneath the shallow pool,

gleaming shards in sun-soaked school.

The water stopped, no bubble, no ring,

just stillness where the pennies cling.

A boy peers in with breath held tight,

like those metals might spring to light,

a whispered wish, a secret cast,

caught in the hush of water past.

The greenish glass breaks summer air,

reflecting sky and faded care.

What speaks beneath the silent coins?

Only cold metal, no one owns.

I watched, waiting for something clear,

but nothing stirred, just quiet near.

The wishes sunk, the water gone,

left bare the weight of each small dawn.
