Yellow square in a sea of dark

Yellow square in a sea of dark,

a silhouette that doesn’t shift.

Eyes pin me to the cracked sidewalk,

making every step loud,

a drum I can’t silence.

I catch the glance,

something holding me in that frozen frame —

a secret kept behind curtains.

The street narrows to a corridor

of watching shapes,

breathing shadows,

waiting without sound.

And I, moving too slow,

feel the weight of eyes

like stones dropped

into a quiet pool.

No one blinks.
