Faded Fibers

Sunbaked and twisted on chipped wood,

a hemp band lies forgotten,

its threads unravel like old stories

no one remembers to tell.

I found it, a faded knot of someone's wrist,

tangled in the dust and scattered leaves.

Roots tangled not in soil, but in time,

a simple thing worn thin by years.

Who wore you? What did you hold?

A promise, a habit, a comfort?

Your color lost to sun and rain,

yet still you cling to the grain.

Faded fibers, frayed edges —

a small life left behind.
