No More Tugs

Saw you downtown today,
buying coffee, same old coat.
I waited for the little jolt,
the urge to say something,
steer you back on the road.
But it wasn't there.
No flicker of the old frustration,
no knot in my gut.
Just watched you turn and walk away,
and the air didn't shift.
It's like a long argument
that just suddenly stops.
Not with a winner, or a loser,
just silence where the shouting used to be.
That was it, I guess.
That was the moment.
