Found a bill from ‘08 today

Found a bill from ‘08 today.

My own signature, bold and wide.

Loopy, like a child would play,

with nothing in the world to hide.

Now my hand moves like a stranger’s.

All sharp angles, tight and small.

Avoiding any kind of danger,

barely looking up at all.

The loops are gone, the sprawling grace,

replaced by something quick and mean.

Can’t find myself in that old place,

just lines where someone else has been.
