Threadbare Comfort

I fold the pile, a practiced hand,

but something in this fabric's hold

reminds me of a softer land,

a story that the years unfold.

This t-shirt, thin at collar's edge,

worn smooth by countless wash and wear,

a fragile, comforting pledge

of comfort found beyond compare.

The weave has frayed, a gentle sigh,

almost transparent, soft, and deep.

It catches light beneath my eye,

the secrets that the fibers keep.
