I kept it in the app like evidence.
Two words, his voice thin and compliant:
Okay. Okay.
I had told him not to call.
He called. He left this instead of pushing back.
Boundary respected. Case closed.
That's what I told myself at 2 AM last night
when I scrolled to it by accident
and hit play anyway.
The blue peaks barely rise. They look
like someone breathing shallow, like surrender.
Like he was already gone before he spoke.
I saved it because I needed to be right.
I needed proof he heard me.
But now I'm angry at him anyway—
at the compliance, the acceptance, the way
he gave me exactly what I asked for
and it wasn't enough.
The waveform graphic shows almost nothing.
Just the ghost of a voice, just
the memory of wanting him to fight back.
