No Way In

The prompt said: draw your house. I drew

a roof, two windows, and a door.

Yellow activity sheet. A few

ballpoint strokes. Nothing more.


I looked back at the page. The door

was floating—nothing below.

No step, no walk. I'd drawn a door

with nowhere left to go.


I folded the sheet once.

The crease cuts through the roof.


I've been carrying it since,

that small, particular proof.
