Three days back probably—

Three days back, probably—

yellow-green now at the rim, still a little

purple at the center

where the pressure was highest.

I found it this morning pulling on a sleeve,

bare bulb catching it just right,

and I pressed my thumb in

to test the soreness.

It was sore.

I kept pressing.

Like if I held the spot long enough

something would surface—

a door frame, a table corner,

some version of a night

that had a reasonable explanation.

The skin just sat there,

warm and faintly wrong,

giving nothing back.
