Fabric Weight

The pile finally gave up the ghost.

A slow-motion avalanche of cotton

and polyester, stiff with the salt of a week’s

worth of running for buses I missed.

It blocked the bathroom door, a soft wall

of things I’ve failed to finish.

The sleeve of my favorite hoodie

is soaking up a puddle of leaked water

near the base of the toilet.

I’m just looking at it. I might

just step over it and go back to sleep.
