We

She asked about the opening

and I said "we" without thinking.

She nodded and I let it stay.

The truth: I went alone

on a Wednesday. Stood in front

of paintings, felt stupid

standing there by myself

while couples walked past.

So I invented an us.

She believed me. Now it's

permanent. I'm the kind

of person who can't stand

alone in a room without

making up a witness.
