Knots I Forget

Frayed ends slip through my fingers again,

twisting, turning like a bad joke.

How does the loop catch and hold tight?

The screen blinks with step-by-step shame,

a dance I trip over every time.

Fingers fumbling, breath uneven,

I tie the knot, then untie it,

a cycle worn thin as the fabric.

A bow tie tied wrong, undone,

like trying to hold something

that always slips away.
