Making Noise Just to Be Seen

I leapt—water swallowed the river’s edge,

clothes dripping, cold biting deep.

Laughter floated, sharp and reckless,

a splash too loud to ignore.

Jeans heavy, soaked and heavy,

a flash of breath and disbelief caught

in the still air,

a moment carved from noise,

tangled in the buzz that followed.

Attention like fire, sudden and bright,

a reckless act dragging eyes

like moths to flame,

finally, no one could look away.
