Receipt's Edge

Tearing the perforated line

on the grocery receipt,

a quick, tiny sting.

Invisible at first, then a bead

of red, small and precise,

along my index finger.

An insignificant wound,

but it burns with a sharp, thin fire,

a small betrayal from the mundane.

Just another cut

from the necessary paperwork

of living.
