Unburdened Step

The unexpected walk,

just a long stretch to the corner store

and back, then further.

My shoulders, usually tight,

just loose.

My steps, usually a careful measure

around the ache in my knee,

were light.

No thought to gravity, or effort.

Just the easy swing of my arms,

the rhythm of breathing, in, out.

My shoes found solid ground.

My own body, for a while, just mine.

No argument, no resistance.

Just moving.
