The Closed Loop

Another turn, and another, all the same.

Driving my sister's kids home,

in a new development, where every street

is just a circle. No way through.

Identical front doors, a basketball hoop

tilted in one driveway.

The quiet hum of central air

from every house.

It feels like a game, or a trap.

Going nowhere new, just back

to where you started.

All these perfect boxes, and no exit.
