The sweat-soaked reprieve

The buzzing stopped, finally.

Just a low hum, now, behind my eyes.

Sheets clinging, damp and cold where

my head had been, a map of sweat

on the pillow case.

The air feels thin, a clean slice

of something I’d forgotten.

No more fire in my bones,

just a deep ache, a tired weight.

This is it, then.

Not well, not whole.

Just not burning.
