My face, grinning, forced.

At that party, years back.

My hair, doing that thing it does

when it doesn't want to be hair.

Bad lighting. The flash caught

my eyes just wrong, made them small.

And the smile, too wide, a stretched mask.

I remember feeling awkward then,

and the photo just holds it, freezes it.

That permanent record of an uncomfortable self.
