The dentist left my jaw feeling like lead

The dentist left my jaw feeling like lead.

I turned left when I should have gone straight

and ended up on the street where I used to sleep.

The window where I watched for the mail

is covered in plastic slats now,

crooked and cheap.

I remember a fly trapped between the glass

and the screen, buzzing until it was just

a dry, black shell I never moved.
