Leftovers

I moved the bottle of expired cream

to find the end of a broken dream.

A plastic tube of shampoo for the hair

of someone who is no longer there.

It left a ring of crusty white

on the glass shelf in the morning light.

I reached for the aspirin to dull the head

and found a ghost in the cabinet instead.
