She said I thought you'd cry

She said I thought you'd cry,

but I just felt the weight,

the light small form, too late

to feel what I was supposed to.

The blank just grew and grew

as I held the thing everyone swore

would break me open, restore

some part I didn't know was missing.

But nothing. Just the dismissing

of the expectation, the small body

going heavy in my arms. Nobody

talks about this part, the nothing,

the way you can hold new life and feel nothing

but the weight and the pressure

to pretend it's a treasure.
